Alex Chioma Otti OFR is a Nigerian banker, entrepreneur, and politician serving as the Governor of Abia State since May 2023. Born on 8 June 1967 in Arochukwu, Abia State, he attended Government Secondary School, Arochukwu and the University of Port Harcourt, where he earned a B.Sc. in Economics. He holds an MBA and a doctorate in Business Administration from the International School of Management, Paris. Otti built a distinguished career in banking, rising to become Group Managing Director and CEO of Diamond Bank Plc from 2011 to 2014. He contested the governorship of Abia State in 2015 and 2019 under APGA before winning in 2023 on the Labour Party platform. His administration is focused on economic transformation, infrastructure renewal, and transparent governance under the "New Abia" agenda.
Alex Otti's "New Abia" agenda centres on five pillars: economic transformation through industrialisation of Aba's manufacturing sector; infrastructure renewal including roads, bridges, and a functional Umuahia capital; transparent governance with zero tolerance for corruption and published budget performance; human capital development through free education at primary level and vocational training; and agricultural modernisation to achieve food security across Abia's 17 LGAs. His administration has committed to completing abandoned road projects within 24 months, attracting ₦500bn in private investment by 2027, and digitising government services to reduce leakages. The New Abia agenda is a 4-year compact with Abia citizens — measurable, time-bound, and audited publicly every quarter.
